Are We There Yet?
From Draft to Publication: Individual Poems
Poem by Poem: Writing Intensive
Along with manuscript consulting, I provide editing of individual poems. Send me one or ten or whatever number, and I will send back line by line editing and revision suggestions, as well as ideas about where you might have the most success submitting. I am thorough, honest, and constructive.
I have many years of workshopping experience and have taught writing workshops for 30 years-- from undergrads, grad students, and community workshops. I also participate in a peer workshop (other published poets and no one in charge); we edit, suggest, laugh, chop, praise, squeeze each other's poems. This is to say, I have experience at both sides of the table.
Send me your poems longing to be seen, read, heard, celebrated.
Testimonial from Sue Burton, winner of the 2017 Two Sylvias Prize for Box.
If you have a chance to work with Carol Potter, jump for it! She's a terrific editor: great sense of language and pacing, of detail and structure. Her wowingly wild sonnet redoublé "The Miss Nancy Papers" inspired my own sequence "Box Set"—which Carol midwifed into a prize-winning essay. She then helped me shape a poetry collection that won a book contest (and an antique inkwell!). Carol is a brilliant poet, a joy to work with, generous, thoughtful, an inspired reader. She'll hang in with you and bring out your best.
